Quillwork Medallion Workshop

At Sitamuk we want to share our culture and traditions with visitors, one of the best ways is to have cultural workshops where you can ask questions and learn in an intimate setting. As of 2025, we focused on doing quillwork medallion workshops which our summer students were trained with fulltime quillwork artist Crystal Gloade. The kits have been fully prepared by Crystal and come in two sizes 1.5mm and 2.5mm. We typically schedule workshops for 1-3 hours, depending on the size of the project and number of participants. Our kits are fully equipped with cleaned and dyed porcupine quills, birchbark, sinew and tools. Sweetgrass is provided for the edges of the medallion which you can leave flat or braid! Our materials were harvested sustainably by community members. This is a great learning opportunity for visitors and locals to experience part of our culture and create this traditional artwork with your own hands.

This workshop is open to all ages; participants under 12 are advised to have an adult present. We go over safety measures - this craft involves using glover needles and porcupine quills so please consider this when signing up young participants. *
